There鈥檚 a scene in my favorite James Bond film, 2006鈥檚 Casino Royale, where Daniel Craig鈥檚 James Bond is sitting in a casino playing poker against the bad guy, Le Chiffre. At the height of the tension in the poker tournament, James pushes all his chips into the middle of the table declaring, 鈥ALL IN鈥 to audible gasps from the audience.

I鈥檝e been at 猫咪头条 as Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences for exactly 8 days as of the writing of this introduction to the newsletter. So, let me first tell you how excited I am about joining this great university and amazing college. The students, staff, and faculty here are simply tremendous and have truly been the bright spot of each day on campus thus far. I look forward to many opportunities to getting to know you, as alumni, and working with you in the future as well. If you鈥檇 like read a little about my past experiences and background, please see the University鈥檚 announcement: /news/gardner-webb-officials-name-new-dean-of-the-college-of-arts-sciences/ (but I鈥檇 rather use my space here writing about James Bond, GWU College of Arts & Sciences, and you than rehashing my past).

Just like James, I always encourage any student group that I interact with to go ALL IN on the vast experiences that college has to offer. As an alumnus, I want to implore you to do the same 鈥 continue to go ALL IN with 猫咪头条 and the College of Arts & Sciences. Now, I recognize that some of you just discovered that you were an alumnus of the College of Arts & Sciences upon receipt of this newsletter 鈥 that鈥檚 not a shocker. With a such a varied set of departments within the college 鈥 from Communication, Art, & Design to Music to Public Service to Natural Sciences to World Languages, Literature & Culture (as well as 6 other departments) 鈥 it鈥檚 easy to miss the college identifier.

So, let me officially welcome you (in case you haven鈥檛 been before) as an alumnus of the College of Arts & Sciences and again, encourage you to go ALL IN with us. In the weeks and months ahead, you will not only be receiving these newsletters highlighting the wonderful work of our current students, faculty, and staff but be given even more ways to get involved as alumni 鈥 volunteering time in classes, donating funds for projects, attending on-campus events, or mentoring students in professions, etc. What causes do you care about? How can we go ALL IN for 猫咪头条 University and the College of Arts & Sciences together? Let鈥檚 find out. Let鈥檚 push those chips into the center of the table and, like James, declare, 鈥ALL IN!鈥

Please never hesitate to reach out to me. I look forward to it.

In anticipation and excitement,

Robert

Greetings, College of Health Sciences (CoHS) alumni and friends. I am excited to share the first edition of the bi-annual CoHS alumni newsletter!

During the past year, the College of Health Sciences at 猫咪头条 University expanded and renewed its commitment to be Christ-Centered, Student-focused, and Purpose-driven as we welcomed the addition of the School of Psychological Science and Counselor Education to our college.

Our college’s commitment is to provide a Christ-centered culture where respect, integrity, and compassion intertwine in the everyday lives of our faculty, staff, and students and ultimately flow into our graduate’s daily work. The commitment to being student-focused; our programs provide rigorous, evidence-based education to our students to meet the everchanging needs of healthcare settings and organizations. Lastly, our commitment to being purpose-driven; captures the heart of why we are on earth and anchors our life in the character and call of God.

During the 2022-2023 academic year, our faculty has provided and will continue to provide community education sessions to increase awareness of prevalent cancers, heart health, and mental health. In September 2023, the college and university will host a Remote Area Medical Clinic partnering with Mount Calvary Baptist Church Life Center in Shelby, NC to provide medical, vision, and dental services.

We are incredibly proud to say our graduates are the legacy of the past, the reality of now, and the brilliance of our future as we move forward, equipping our students to carry out the mission of the College of Health Sciences and the University.

Together we are the thinkers, doers, and world-changers!

Joyful Blessings!

Hi Alumni!  I am excited to share with you news and upcoming events in the Godbold College of Business.  In Fall of 2021, the College of Business launched Experiential Learning Days.  These days were created in an effort to give our students hands-on experiences, networking opportunities and exposure to professionals in all types of industries.  This Academic Year, we have continued these Experiential Learning Days and students have had the opportunity to network with professionals from accounting, manufacturing, sales, and more.

We are also busy planning our Dawg House Pitch Competition.  Thanks to a grant from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, we are able to host our first ever pitch competition.  We have students from across campus who have wonderful, innovative ideas!  We can鈥檛 wait to show them off!  We would love for you to be involved with this event in March!

The College of Business also partnered again this Academic Year with the Center for Personal and Professional Development to host the Fall Internship and Career Fair where we had over 100 different organizations here on campus to recruit students.  We will be hosting the Spring Career and Internship Fair on April 19!  We would love for you and your organization to consider registering to recruit for our students!

The above events are just the tip of the iceberg.  We would love to have you back for a visit, grab a coffee or lunch, speak with students, recruit students and/or other ideas you may have!

We look forward to connecting with you soon!

Sincerely,

Dr. Mischia Taylor

Hello, SOD Alums!

Just a few words of greeting from and about your School of Divinity. We鈥檝e been working hard to continue to make our ministry-related degrees possible for current and new students (you may have someone in your network who comes to mind). We recently launched the MABT degree (Master of Arts in Bible and Theology) for persons not interested in becoming the senior minister, but those interested in assisting the church in support roles.

We came to this decision after repeated questions by people and churches that need greater expertise in Bible and Theology, but not necessarily in the practical aspects of ministry like that which the senior minister provides. This program has both face-to-face and online options. The Keesee Education Fund provides financial assistance to qualified Baptist students who do their courses in a non-online format.

Also, we have a new Director of Admissions, Amanda Lemmonds (alemmonds@gardner-webb.edu) who is doing an outstanding job connecting with prospective students and helping with current students. Email her (or me) so that we can stay connected.

Sincerely,

Robert Canoy
