Stephen, 鈥23, and his father, Kevin, 鈥93, Uncover the One鈥憃f鈥慜ne Livvy Dunne Card That Has Captured National Attention and Sparked a Frenzy Among Collectors

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擲tephen Qualls not only followed in his father鈥檚 footsteps by graduating from 猫咪头条 University; the 2023 and 1993 alumni share a love for sports-card collecting. 鈥淢y dad and I saw it as a way to connect and do something we love together,鈥 Qualls reflected. 鈥淲e love baseball, and my dad grew up collecting cards. We still call each other all the time to talk about it.鈥

Their longtime hobby has seen a global resurgence, with rare cards bringing in millions. Always in search of that collector鈥檚 dream, father and son increased the stakes in 2007 by purchasing their first Topps Hobby Box, which promises two premium cards. Every Christmas morning since then, they eagerly open the set and marvel over the surprises inside. One year, they pulled a one鈥憃f鈥慳鈥慿ind card containing a lock of Napoleon Bonaparte鈥檚 hair; another year, the surprise was a dinosaur fossil.

Stephen Qualls Moment edited
A screenshot of the moment that Kevin and
Stephen Qualls uncovered the Livvy Dunne card.

This year, they opened the box to find a one-of-one autographed card that could bring joy to others as much as sharing their hobby has blessed them. 鈥淲e pulled the only autograph in the entire world of Livvy Dunne,鈥 Qualls revealed. Dunne is a Sports Illustrated model, American influencer with a social media following of over 10 million, a former top-ranked gymnast, and she’s dating MLB star, Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, Paul Skenes.

Not sure what to do next, Qualls posted photos and video of his discovery on Reddit, where it received 700,000 views and 500 comments. Earlier, he had seen a Topps repost where Skenes called his girlfriend鈥檚 card the 鈥渉ottest card of the year.鈥 Everyone on Reddit offered suggestions about what Skenes might offer for the card. Ideas ranged from free game tickets for life to going on a double date with Skenes and Livvy.

Qualls鈥 post received attention from the official Instagram and , which also featured the card on a . Then, 鈥溾 followed with a story. As attention grew, Goldin, a respected international auction house, notified Qualls of its interest, authenticated the card, and awarded it a top grade.

The card will appear in , which goes live on March 18 at 8 p.m. and closes on April 11 at 10 p.m. 鈥淢y goal is for Skenes to get this card; however, he needs to buy it before the auction goes live,鈥 Qualls said. 鈥淚f he is late, then he will have to fight in the real-world market with other people who want the card. A lot of people want this card.鈥

Qualls, who earned his bachelor鈥檚 degree in marketing, wanted to share the news with his former 猫咪头条 professors, hoping the story would also bring some recognition to the University that shaped him spiritually and academically. 鈥淚 know what marketing does and I wanted to give 猫咪头条 some publicity,鈥 he explained. 鈥淚 won the marketing award, top of my class, on graduation day. I鈥檓 a Runnin鈥 Bulldog for life.鈥

The GWU connection runs deep. 鈥淢y dad collected cards with his buddies from 猫咪头条, and they are all getting back into it now,鈥 Qualls shared. 鈥淭hey collected all the Ken Griffey Jr. cards back in the 鈥90s. The running joke among all his friends was that Qualls always pulled the best cards. And so, 鈥業t鈥檚 that Qualls鈥 luck,鈥 is what they would say.鈥

Stephen Qualls WeTheHobby
WeTheHobby posted about the card.

Qualls prefers to call it 鈥淕od鈥檚 favor.鈥 Although he majored in marketing, he sensed a call into pastoral ministry, like his dad, grandfather and two uncles. A pivotal influence was Dr. Don Caudill in the Godbold College of Business. 鈥淗e pulled me aside after class and said distinctly, 鈥楽tephen you are very gifted, I have only said this to one other student my whole career. But God has big things in store for you,鈥欌 Qualls remembered. 鈥淗e then offered me to join his Honors invite-only seminar on 鈥楾he Science of Success.鈥 I can proudly say that I have accomplished, with the help of God, of course, most of my previous goals. For example, I planned to get married, have a baby, and finish my Masters of Divinity. I graduate in fall. God has been truly great. Caudill helped me cast vision and bring it into reality. However, I must note that none of this would be possible without faith in God and his sovereign hand over my life. All glory to Jesus Christ and Him alone.鈥

Qualls shared that his faith was strengthened by Gardner鈥慦ebb professors like Dr. Paula Qualls (no relation), whose teaching on Scripture and spiritual warfare helped spark his dissertation topic, 鈥淎 Biblical Framework for Spiritual Warfare.鈥 He added that the encouragement he found among fellow believers on campus and at Hope Community Church in Shelby, N.C., laid a strong foundation for his call to ministry. Qualls will graduate in the fall from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) in Wake Forest, N.C., and plans to begin his doctorate in pastoral theology while also hoping to serve as a pastor.

Even as excitement builds around what might come from the Livvy Dunne card, Qualls鈥 focus is on how to use this blessing from God to benefit others. 鈥淕od works in very mysterious ways and for some reason this lot has landed on me and I know that’s not a coincidence,鈥 he asserted. 鈥淚 don’t believe in luck. I believe in Providence, and I know God is going to use this for his glory. It’s not about me. It’s ultimately about getting His name known. I want to be generous with this money because it’s not my money, it’s Jesus’ money. I’m just a steward. My wife and I, when we pray through it, we’re going to bless people. We’ve never been in a position to bless people.鈥

Qualls also wants to use this moment to share the Gospel. 鈥淚 want people to know that Jesus is Lord and He can save your soul,鈥 Qualls stated. 鈥淎t Southeastern, we have a place called the Center for Faith and Culture, and I just met with the director over there.鈥 He expressed interest in interviewing Skenes, also noting that this month the Center is highlighting connections between sports and faith.

In addition to the podcast invitation, Qualls had a final word for the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher: 鈥淧aul Skenes, I hope you get this card.鈥

Mike Wilbanks, Darryl Brown, and Greg Lloyd Share How Leadership, Resilience, and Strong Team Culture Shaped Their State Title-Winning Seasons

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擜s football fans prepare for this weekend鈥檚 Super Bowl, the nation鈥檚 attention turns to the traits that elevate good teams into great ones鈥攍eadership, chemistry, resilience, and a commitment to collective success. Those same qualities, often celebrated on the NFL鈥檚 biggest stage, have also defined three North Carolina high school programs that captured state championships this season. Remarkably, all three teams are led by Gardner鈥慦ebb University alumni, whose coaching philosophies trace back to lessons learned long before their own players ever take the field.

These coaches鈥擥reg Lloyd, 鈥02, of Crest High School; Mike Wilbanks, 鈥98, of Shelby High School, and Darryl Brown, 鈥00, of Grimsley High School鈥攔epresent three different classifications in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), an organization of 447 member schools. Despite distinct team cultures and competitive landscapes, each coach emphasizes a shared foundation: championship seasons are built not only on talent, but on trust and personal growth.

wilbanks a

Mike Wilbanks: Leadership and Chemistry

Wilbanks has led the Shelby Golden Lions since 2019 and works alongside several fellow GWU alumni on his staff: Chris Emery, 鈥98; Jamie Dunaway, 鈥13; Dobson Collins, ’08; and current GWU student, Sam Baldree. He attributes his team鈥檚 title run to two essential ingredients. 鈥淭he senior leadership on this team was phenomenal. Their work ethic and commitment to excellence really permeated the entire team,鈥 he said. 鈥淪econdly, our team chemistry was great.鈥

Team unity wasn鈥檛 accidental. Wilbanks prioritized opportunities for players to bond off the field through cookouts, fishing trips, cornhole games, and other informal gatherings.

His coaching philosophy is rooted in lessons from his time at Gardner鈥慦ebb with Coach Woody Fish. Wilbanks, a former three鈥憏ear offensive line starter, said Fish instilled preparation and discipline into the team. 鈥淚 learned that a successful season doesn鈥檛 just happen in August,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t starts in January with offseason lifting and conditioning鈥 summer camp to prepare鈥 and a weekly routine once the season starts.鈥

Darryl Brown: Resilience and Grit

Brown, head coach since 2016 of the Grimsley Whirlies in Greensboro, N.C., emphasizes resilience as the defining trait of his championship team. Early adversity threatened to derail the season when the starting quarterback was sidelined by an injury. Still, Brown watched his players rise to the moment. 鈥淲e had a group of players that were very resilient,鈥 he affirmed. 鈥淓ach week, we had different players stepping up and making plays. This entire season was a complete effort by every player and coach.鈥

Brown noted that Gardner鈥慦ebb baseball coach Clyde Miller taught him the importance of teamwork. 鈥淓very player has a role, and whatever your role happens to be, it is extremely important to the success of the team,鈥 he said.

The lessons extended beyond the field. Brown remembers Dr. Dee Hunt as a crucial mentor who helped guide him through significant academic and personal decisions. He still cherishes the relationships he formed at Gardner鈥慦ebb, many of which continue today.

Lloyd DMID

Greg Lloyd: Experience and Tradition

Greg Lloyd led Crest to its seventh state title鈥攁nd first in a decade鈥攂efore retiring in 2025. Experience was the deciding factor in his team. 鈥淲e had a lot of players back from the previous season who had played a lot,鈥 he explained. 鈥淲e played a lot of seniors this year鈥 Crest has a lot of tradition, so the players feel that, and those high expectations keep them motivated.鈥

Lloyd, also a former baseball player under Miller, said he carried the same emphasis on relationships into his own career. 鈥淚 take pride in building relationships with my students and players鈥 and I really believe that鈥檚 why I have been successful,鈥 he said. 鈥淎 lot of that foundation came at Gardner鈥慦ebb.鈥

Like Brown, he remembers the support of Hunt and said her mentorship helped him persist through challenges in college. 鈥淚f it wasn鈥檛 for Dr. Dee Hunt鈥攕he took a lot of time with me and helped me鈥攁nd we made it,鈥 Lloyd affirmed. 鈥淪o, I was very thankful.鈥

A Shared Foundation

Though their teams compete in different classifications and face unique pressures, Lloyd, Wilbanks, and Brown remain connected by their Gardner鈥慦ebb roots. Their experiences reflect a common message: mentorship, perseverance, and strong relationships shape not only championship seasons but the lives of the students they lead.

Funding Awarded to the College of Health Sciences to Address Behavioral Health Needs in Rural and Underserved Areas of North Carolina

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥斆ㄟ渫诽踱檚 College of Health Sciences has received the University鈥檚 first federally-funded grant. Presented by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the initial award is $550,000, which is renewable for three years for a total of $2.16 million. The funding will address behavioral health needs in rural and underserved areas through the Advancing Collaborative Care, Integration, and Interprofessional Education in Rural North Carolina (ACE) project.

The purpose of the ACE project is to prepare Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)-Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), and Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) students to practice in integrated care sites and improve access to behavioral health services for North Carolina. The University鈥檚 staff and faculty worked with its grants consulting partner, McAllister & Quinn, to obtain the award.

Nate Evans
Nate Evans

鈥淭his grant represents a significant milestone for 猫咪头条 and affirms the vital role we play in addressing behavioral health disparities across our region,鈥 affirmed Interim GWU President Nate Evans. 鈥淚t also underscores the University鈥檚 commitment to improving behavioral health outcomes in rural and underserved communities. I am incredibly proud of our faculty and staff for their dedication and leadership in bringing this project to fruition.鈥

The proposed project will (1) build institutional infrastructure to support recruitment, teaching, and learning for a diverse clinical workforce; (2) enhance curricula and co-curricular activities to better prepare PMHNP and CMHC students to work in integrated care environments; and (3) expand clinical capacity for PMHNP and CMHC trainees in integrated care settings, with practice partners such as Atrium Health, CaroMont Behavioral Health, and Kintegra Behavioral Health.

By meeting its education and clinical objectives, the ACE project will propel the College of Health Sciences鈥 capacity to prepare graduates to meet urgent behavioral health service needs in North Carolina. The organization of activities throughout the project period reflects a thoughtful approach of capacity building, planning, implementation, evaluation, and sustainability. The PMHNP and CMHC students will work and learn together with preceptors and supervisors in integrated care settings, providing a high-quality learning experience.

Dr. Nicole Waters

鈥淲e are grateful for the support of this grant, which enhances the education of the PHMNP and CMHC students through integrated experiential learning,鈥 shared 猫咪头条 Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Nicole Waters. 鈥淭his opportunity equips students to serve in high-need areas while fostering a strong commitment to compassionate, collaborative care. I extend thanks to our dedicated faculty, whose leadership was instrumental in securing the grant and is vital to the successful implementation of this meaningful initiative.鈥

Further, 猫咪头条 faculty will participate in extensive professional development, so that they can better prepare students, colleagues, clinical partners, and other members of the community to meet the unmet needs of marginalized populations, especially those who have or are at-risk of developing co-occurring mental health needs and substance use disorders. This professional development targets the serious unmet needs of children, adolescents, and transitional-age youth, and will enhance the collective approach to meeting their needs in the region.

The following faculty members collaborated on the grant proposal and will lead implementation of the ACE project: Dr. Tiffany Stewart (PMHNP program coordinator), Dr. Sharon Webb (chair, CMHC program), and Dr. Charlotte Stephens (associate professor of nursing).

Inaugural HigherEd PodCon Showcases Over 40 Presenters from North America

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥斆ㄟ渫诽 University Assistant Provost Dr. Greg Pillar has been selected to participate in the inaugural HigherEd PodCon set for July 12 at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Pillar is one of over 40 presenters and will be featured in a session on designing impactful campus podcasts. The all-day event includes 15 sessions with faculty, students, tech strategists, and communications professionals from more than 25 institutions and organizations from across North America.

Pillar is new to podcasting and host of 鈥淭he Bulldog Mindset鈥 on the GWU Podcast Network. He noted, 鈥淧articipating in the inaugural HigherEd PodCon is an honor. This is the first national event dedicated exclusively to the intersection of podcasting and higher education, and being invited to present alongside nationally recognized leaders is both exciting and humbling.鈥

Greg Pillar headshot
Dr. Greg Pillar

He continued, 鈥淚t鈥檚 a chance to represent 猫咪头条 and 鈥楾he Bulldog Mindset鈥 on a national stage and to contribute to a growing community of creative academic communicators. For me, it validates the work we鈥檙e doing here鈥攅levating voices from our campus in ways that are accessible, human, and mission-driven. This is a great opportunity to not only help with my continual acclimation with, and connection to, the campus and the 猫咪头条 community, but also help develop and grow some new skills.鈥

Dean Hoke was part of a group that initiated HigherEd PodCon. He is the managing partner of Edu Alliance Group, a higher education consultancy, and a senior fellow with the Sagamore Institute. 鈥淔or years, there have been conversations among many higher education podcasters asking: Why isn鈥檛 there a podcasting conference just for us?鈥 Hoke wrote in a blog for Edu Alliance Group. 鈥淭his question lingered, raised in passing at virtual meetups, in DM threads, and on campuses where faculty and staff were creating podcasts with little external support or collaboration. Last winter, a group of us decided it was time to do something about it.鈥

Pillar will be on a panel with Daniel Story, digital scholarship librarian, University of California, Santa Cruz, and Gordon Katic, director, Cited Media. Their session, 鈥淒esigning Impactful Campus Podcasts: Storytelling, Series Strategies, and Narrative Craft鈥 will blend their shared expertise on limited series strategies, scholarly longform storytelling, and aligning podcasts with campus identity.

They will discuss how to create podcasts that creatively capture the intellectual vibrancy, personal stories, and scholarly breakthroughs that define campus cultures. 鈥淭he session brings together three experienced podcast creators鈥攖hough I wouldn鈥檛 say I鈥檓 鈥榚xperienced鈥欌攖o explore how higher education podcasts can go beyond promotion and truly resonate with campus communities and audiences,鈥 Pillar explained. 鈥淲e鈥檒l discuss strategies for building limited series that reduce burnout, using longform narrative techniques to tell scholarly stories, and aligning podcast tone and structure with institutional identity, which will likely be more my contribution.鈥

Pillar shared that podcasts are becoming powerful tools on college campuses. 鈥淎t 猫咪头条, 鈥楾he Bulldog Mindset鈥 is helping us connect across departments and generations,鈥 he affirmed. 鈥淚t’s not just about marketing鈥攊t’s about creating a platform where people feel seen, heard, and valued. Podcasts are also incredibly accessible. In a world where attention is fragmented and trust in institutions is fragile, podcasting allows us to build deeper, more personal relationships with our audiences鈥攚hether they鈥檙e students, alumni, faculty, or prospective families. As campuses compete not only for enrollment but also for relevance and impact, podcasting gives us a flexible, mission-aligned way to tell our story well.鈥

The keynote speaker is Matt Abrahams, lecturer in Strategic Communication at Stanford Graduate School of Business and host of Think Fast, Talk Smart. His insights on clarity, message delivery, and audience engagement will set the tone for a day of meaningful exploration.

Percussionist is First Student Chosen from GWU to Participate in Program Sponsored by College Band Directors National Association

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擜s 猫咪头条 University senior Connor Settlemyre waited to perform with some of the best musicians from around the country, he looked up to see members of the audience seated directly above the stage, anticipating the music to begin. The performance was the culmination of three days of practice at the National Small Band Programs Intercollegiate Band, meeting in Fort Worth, Texas. In the previous 72 hours, the 106 people around him had become friends, and they were ready to present a stirring program of music.

Connor Settlemyre, left, and Dr. Sarah Fabian pose after the
concert in Van Cliburn Concert Hall.

鈥淚 was super excited,鈥 remarked Settlemyre, of Rutherfordton, N.C. 鈥淚 thought that the music was really cool, and I was ready for the audience to hear it. I knew that we had been working extremely hard over the three days prior and that it was going to be a great performance. The concert hall was extremely nice and had some cool features. One of these being seats on a second level that were essentially over the stage. This whole experience was something I will never forget.鈥

Settlemyre was nominated for the National Small Band Programs Intercollegiate Band by Dr. Sarah Fabian, 猫咪头条 director of Bands. After an application process and audition, he became the first 猫咪头条 student selected for this outstanding achievement. 鈥淚t was truly an honor to witness Connor perform with this incredible ensemble,鈥 Fabian praised. 鈥淗e had the privilege of working with a talented conductor, engaging with several composers, and forming lasting connections with many new musicians. I鈥檓 so grateful to have played a part in providing him with this remarkable opportunity. Watching Connor bring such incredible pieces to life with the National Honor Band filled me with immense pride. His performance was nothing short of extraordinary, and I couldn鈥檛 be prouder of his accomplishments.鈥

The concert was held in conjunction with the 2025 National Conference of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) on March 26-29 in Fort Worth. It was presented in the Van Cliburn Concert Hall at Texas Christian University, a 715-seat performance hall acoustically designed for chamber and orchestral music.

鈥淏eing able to represent 猫咪头条 University in a national setting is something I never thought I would be able to do, but I am truly blessed to have been able to,鈥 Settlemyre reflected. 鈥淭his experience allowed me to perform with some of the best musicians from across the country. This ensemble was by far the largest I have ever performed in and allowed for some great rehearsals. I learned a ton, as a performer and as an educator, that I will use as I continue my musical career.鈥

Connor Settlemyre, left, poses with James Jackson, the
conductor of the National Small Band Programs
Intercollegiate Band.

Settlemyre noted the best part of the full weekend was being able to connect with people from across the country for a common goal. 鈥淲hen we arrived at practice on Wednesday night, we were complete strangers but by the concert on Saturday, we were one big family,鈥 he affirmed. 鈥淚 learned so much from our conductor about how to captivate a group. He did a fantastic job at keeping us engaged despite the long hours of rehearsal. This whole experience is something that I am extremely grateful for.鈥

He said the opportunity elevated his skills as both a musician and as an educator. As a musician, he learned technical things from others in his section. As an educator, he watched the conductor and how he connected the group to the music emotionally, as well as offered instruction to enhance their technical skills.

鈥淚 want to thank CBDNA for making this honor band a possibility,鈥 Settlemyre acknowledged. 鈥淭his experience was life changing, and I will never forget it. I also want to thank Dr. Fabian for believing in me enough to even bring this possibility to me. Dr. Fabian has been with me every step of my collegiate career since she arrived at 猫咪头条, and I am forever grateful for the impact she has left on my life. Throughout this whole process, she was there for anything I needed. Whether it was help with an audition excerpt or help with a section of the concert repertoire, she was there to help. I would not be the musician I am today without her guidance. I also want to thank the music department for supporting me on this crazy journey. None of this would have been possible without the support of the faculty.鈥

Event Includes Dinner, Silent Auction and Introductions of the 2025 Division I Roster and Coaching Staff

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擭ow in its fifth year, 猫咪头条 baseball鈥檚 First Pitch Celebration has become a must-attend event. Scheduled for Feb. 1 in Tucker Student Center, the featured speaker is NFL and NCAA Rules Analyst Gene Steratore. A native of Uniontown, Pa., Steratore is a former NCAA and NFL official with 40 years of experience that includes refereeing Sweet-16 games and a Super Bowl.

Gene Steratore

Head Baseball Coach Jim Chester is excited and grateful to see how this event has grown each year in attendance and scope. 鈥淭he 猫咪头条 baseball family, friends, and alumni gather in anticipation of the start of the 2025 season,鈥 he shared. 鈥淭he action-packed evening will not disappoint. We invite everyone to come and get an inside look at the baseball program and the 2025 season!鈥

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and silent auction starting at 6 p.m. The program begins at 7 p.m. and includes introductions of the 2025 DI roster and coaching staff and Steratore鈥檚 remarks.

Chester added, 鈥淪teratore is a household name, especially at NFL playoff time. He was and still is at the top of his profession. His story and path to success is unique and motivational. We are excited to welcome him to 猫咪头条 University and Boiling Springs, N.C.鈥

Tickets start at $50 per person or $375 for a table of eight.

Steratore echoed Chester鈥檚 excitement for the evening. He said he looks forward to being on the 猫咪头条 campus and meeting the student-athletes, alumni and supporters. 鈥淭he University is well-respected, and the student body is the real heartbeat of what makes it a vibrant place,鈥 Steratore assessed. 鈥淚t鈥檚 so exciting to be surrounded by that atmosphere of hope in the future.鈥

Steratore grew up around the profession, because his father was a referee the Big East when it was formed in 1980. Following close behind his dad, Steratore refereed his first basketball game with the YMCA in Uniontown when he was 13. From there, Steratore officiated church leagues, varsity and finally, colleges. He started officiating NCAA basketball in 1997 and worked in the Big Ten, Atlantic-10 and Big East conferences. After joining the NFL, he continued to referee college basketball, spending 22 years in the profession. Sometimes, he would officiate both sports during the same week.

In the NFL, he started as a field judge before being promoted to referee in 2006. He served as alternate referee for Super Bowl 44 and referee for Super Bowl 52.

Steratore will share some of his experiences as a referee. He will also relate lessons he鈥檚 learned in his profession, such as dealing with pressurized situations, balancing his work and personal life, and choosing healthy habits.

When Steratore retired from both sports in 2018, he joined CBS Sports and enhances the coverage of college football, college basketball and the NFL. Away from the world of sports, Steratore is the co-owner of Steratore Sanitary Supply in Washington, Pa., with his brother, NFL back judge Tony Steratore. The brothers founded the company in 1988 and currently supply janitorial products to over 300 companies.

Runnin鈥 Bulldogs Defeated Oregon State; Travel to Colorado to Take on Denver Pioneers

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擲enior midfielder Caio Hughes scored in the 72nd minute while the 猫咪头条 defense was dominant over 90 minutes as the Runnin’ Bulldogs took down Oregon State 1-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday evening, Nov. 21.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs will now travel to Denver, Colo., on Sunday, Nov. 24, facing the Pioneers of the University of Denver. Game time is set for 3 p.m. The campus is invited to cheer on the team at a Watch Party held in Stewart Hall, Tucker Student Center.

Hughes led GWU with four total shots, including the game-winner while six other players registered one shot each. Junior keeper Alan Horrocks was solid in goal once again, collecting his seventh clean sheet of the year after playing all 90 minutes in cage.

猫咪头条 pushed forward early in the contest, ripping off several shots in the match’s early minutes, but could not find the back of the net for the go-ahead score. Hughes connected on a pair of strikes on goal in the 19th and 35th minutes that were hauled in by the Oregon State keeper.

The Beavers were also presented a golden opportunity of their own midway through the first, but Horrocks ricocheted the shot of Sergi Solans to preserve the scoreless tie heading into the half.

Offense was at a premium for the majority of the second half as both defenses stood tall. However, that changed in the 72nd minute when Hughes found himself unmarked in the box before blasting his third goal of the season. He was double assisted on the goal by midfielder Tiago Campos and forward Lucas Mauro.

From that point, the game was all in the hands of 猫咪头条 as it did not allow a single shot over the final 18 minutes of the match enroute to the 1-nil win.

Bipartisan Event Starts at 7 p.m. in Faith Hall, Tucker Student Center

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥斆ㄟ渫诽 University students, faculty and staff will join together on Tuesday, Nov. 5, for a Bipartisan Election Watch Party. Held from 7 p.m. to midnight, the event begins in Faith Hall, Tucker Student Center. At 9 p.m., when The Gathering, student-led worship, wraps up in Hope and Stewart Halls, all three rooms will be open for the Watch Party.

Associate Professor of Political Science Dr. Elizabeth Amato helped to coordinate the event. 鈥淭he Election Watch Party will be a festive and fun way for our campus community to come together in friendship and civil concord,鈥 she affirmed. 鈥淒emocracy is a spectator鈥檚 sport鈥攊t is entertaining, competitive, and wildly unpredictable. The best part is that regardless of who wins this year, there’s another election in just two years!鈥

Sponsored by the Student Government Association, College Democrats, College Republicans and the Department of Social Sciences, the Watch Party will show alternate TV channels selected by members of the College Democrats and College Republicans.

Amato added, 鈥溍ㄟ渫诽 has a wonderful tradition of its political clubs, College Democrats and College Republicans, working together alongside with SGA to be an example of how finding common ground is always possible.鈥

While the returns come in, pizza, beverages and popcorn will be served. Raffles and other activities will add to the evening鈥檚 events. Graduate interns from the GWU Counseling Center and representatives from University Police will also be available during the evening.

Auxiliary aids will be made available to persons with disabilities upon request 10 working days prior to the event.  Please call 704-406-4270 or email disabilityservices@gardner-webb.edu with your request.
