Free Event on June 5-6 Targets Social Media Professionals Who Work in Higher Education

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥� Hootsuite, the industry-leading social media marketing platform for enterprise organizations, and 猫咪头条 University are hosting the Second Annual Higher Ed Social Media Summit on June 5-6 in Tucker Student Center. This one-of-a-kind event is created especially for social media professionals who work in higher education. Through interactive, peer-led sessions and thought-provoking discussions, participants will discuss challenges, strategies and ideas, as well as network with industry leaders and peers.

Last year鈥檚 Summit, held at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz., was a tremendous success. Feedback from past attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with 97.5% gaining actionable insights and 95% rating the event 4 or 5 out of 5.

Register Now for OneBlood Event on Jan. 10, 2023

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he 猫咪头条 University Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and Student Nurses Association (SNA) are sponsoring a spring blood drive through on Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The organization鈥檚 Big Red Bus will be located near the Caf.

To donate blood, individuals must be in good health, 16 or older, and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. According to OneBlood, donors play a vital role with the majority of donated blood meeting patients鈥� needs in general medicine, surgeries and cancer treatments.

The students in HOSA have offered a blood drive in January for the last three years, and they are excited that SNA members are assisting this year. Because the drive is scheduled on the Monday before classes begin for the 2023 Spring Semester, Dr. Tina Lewis, assistant professor of nursing and HOSA Faculty Advisor, suggested that students, faculty and staff reserve their appointments now.

Activities Begin with Morning Convocation and Include Presentation of Inaugural Founders Medal

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥斆ㄟ渫诽� University is honoring the dedicated leaders in its past by reviving the celebration of Founders Day with special activities on Dec. 1. A highlight of the day is the presentation of the inaugural Founders Medal. This award recognizes individuals who have contributed significant and distinguished service to the University. The community is invited to nominate individuals for the award by Sept. 24. A full list of criteria is available here.

鈥淲e stand on the shoulders of those giants who came before us,鈥� acknowledged 猫咪头条 President William Downs. 鈥淣ow into our 117th year as an institution of higher education, we certainly benefit from the labors and love of men and women who devoted so much to building this special place. Somewhere along our historical path the Founders Day concept fell into disuse, and we are honored in 2022 to be able to reestablish this important annual tradition. I truly believe that the more we learn about GWU鈥檚 past, the more excited we all will be about what can be accomplished in our future.鈥� 

Events on Dec. 1 begin with a Founders Day Convocation at 9:25 a.m. in Dover Chapel and end with the annual Festival of Lights at 7 p.m. in Dover Theatre, followed by a reception in Tucker Student Center.

Throughout the day, the campus community and guests may visit the Pouryousefi Memorial Art Gallery in Tucker to view information and items from the University鈥檚 history.

Afternoon events start at 4 p.m. with a ceremony to place the Huggins-Curtis Building Historical Marker at Dover Campus Center, which is built on the site of the former main building on campus. At 4:30 p.m., the University鈥檚 Archivist will be available in the Pouryousefi Gallery to answer questions about the exhibit. The Founders Day Awards ceremony and dinner will be at 5 p.m. in Tucker Student Center.

猫咪头条鈥檚 beginning dates back to Dec. 2, 1905, when the Boiling Springs High School was chartered as a result of an initiative sponsored by the Kings Mountain Baptist Association (Cleveland County) and the Sandy Run Baptist Association (Rutherford County).

Donors Have Matching Opportunities Available to Double Their Impact

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥斆ㄟ渫诽� University鈥檚 Seventh Annual Double Dawg Day is one month away鈥攐n an easy date to remember鈥擜pril 7th. On this annual day of giving, supporters have the chance to take advantage of matching opportunities that could double the impact.

鈥淭his year鈥檚 Double Dawg Day has the potential to be bigger than ever, thanks to the generosity of our alumni and friends,鈥� shared Vice President of Advancement Nate Evans. 鈥淚 invite everyone to join us on April 7^th to support the area of campus that matters most to you.鈥�

Alumni, students, parents, friends, faculty and staff can unite with their fellow Bulldogs and choose the people, programs and causes to support across the GWU campus. Some options include:

• University Priority Fund, which supports the greatest needs of the University.
• Annual Fund, which supports student scholarships.
• School/College Priority Fund, which provides the dean with the ability to respond quickly to emerging opportunities, transform the student experience, and strengthen operational capacity.
