猫咪头条 Band Presents Preview of 鈥榁iva La Diva鈥 with Chart-topping Hits and Bold Visuals

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he 猫咪头条 Marching Bulldogs are excited to step into the spotlight with a halftime show that features some of today鈥檚 biggest hits. Band members started working on the show in August, arriving to campus two weeks before the start of classes to learn the music and their drill.

They will be performing at the first home game on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m., which is during Family Weekend. It鈥檚 a red-out game (wear your GWU red) with the Dawgs vs. The Citadel.

Director of Bands Dr. Sarah Fabian, assistant professor of music, said the first performance is a preview of what鈥檚 to come. 鈥淭his year鈥檚 show is titled 鈥榁iva La Diva,鈥 featuring music by pop powerhouses Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan,鈥 she described. 鈥淔or this performance, we鈥檒l be showcasing some of today鈥檚 biggest hits, including: 鈥楢bracadabra,鈥 鈥楨spresso,鈥 and Pink Pony.鈥

Fabian added, 鈥淕et ready for high energy, bold visuals, and major diva vibes and stay tuned as we unveil more of the full production throughout the season!鈥

Raniyah Adams, of Bessemer City, N.C., is the new drum major. She auditioned for the position by submitting a video of herself conducting and then presenting an in-person teaching segment and conducting the national anthem and other songs. A computer information systems major, Adams has been a member of the Marching Bulldogs for three years. 鈥淚 am truly honored and excited to have been selected as drum major, and I look forward to stepping into this role with pride and dedication,鈥 she affirmed. 鈥淪o far, this year has taught me so much about what it means to be a leader. I鈥檝e grown not only as a drum major, developing my skills and confidence on the podium, but also as someone who can guide, motivate, and support others. Every challenge and rehearsal have pushed me to be stronger, more patient, and more determined.鈥

Raniyah Adams, of Bessemer City, N.C.,
is the new drum major.

Her favorite part of this year鈥檚 halftime show is the opener. 鈥淚t has a little bit of a rock feel and very upbeat,鈥 she observed. 鈥淚 believe fans are going to enjoy this show. We鈥檙e playing some very popular songs by very popular artists that are topping the music charts. I hope it encourages everyone to sing and dance during our performances.鈥

She continued, 鈥淓very time I step onto the field, I feel a rush of excitement. I think about all the hours of hard work it took to get to that moment, and I can鈥檛 help but picture my family in the crowd. More than anything, I just want to give it my all and make the people I love proud.鈥

Makenzie Harris, of Bessemer City, is the drumline section leader. She also likes the upbeat opening movement. A biology major with a biomedical science concentration, she has been a member of the band for four years. 鈥淚 think the fans will be super excited about this show as we are playing new hit songs,鈥 she asserted. 鈥淥ur student section will appreciate our second movement a lot, I believe.鈥

Harris said she loved learning the show with the band members, and especially those in her section. 鈥淭hey make me so proud to be a section leader,鈥 she praised. 鈥淚 am super excited for my senior year. When I take the field, I think about how far I have come since I was a marcher in my freshman year of high school, and I feel so proud of myself. I am motivated to make every performance amazing, and I perform each time like it is my last.鈥

The colorguard section leader, Kaselynn Mitchell, of Woodstock, Ga., believes that the show is exceptional because the musicians, guard, and dance section have worked many hours to become a cohesive group. 鈥淭he best part of the show this year is the unity across every section of the band, which really shines through in our performance,鈥 she explained. 鈥淭he color guard choreography adds to that sense of connection because it matches the music so well and helps bring the entire show to life.鈥

On game day, Mitchell feels confident and grateful. 鈥淚鈥檓 truly blessed to have the opportunity to walk onto the field surrounded by my band family and share with the audience what we鈥檝e worked so hard to perfect,鈥 she stated. 鈥淭he moment the band begins playing, all my nerves disappear, and I feel completely carried by the music as I put my heart and soul into every movement of the choreography. My love for performing motivates me to give my best effort each time, and I鈥檓 also driven by the joy of connecting with both the audience and my teammates.鈥

Mitchell added, 鈥淥ne of the biggest things I鈥檝e learned this year in marching band and color guard is how much I value the leadership team we have. I love the way we work together because everyone brings their own strengths, and we support each other to make the whole band stronger. Being part of such a collaborative and encouraging group has taught me how important strong leadership and teamwork are to our success.鈥

National Honor Recognizes Music Education Excellence

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥斆ㄟ渫诽 Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Sarah Fabian has received national recognition as one of the 2025 Yamaha 鈥40 Under 40.鈥 She was chosen from hundreds of nominations as an outstanding young music educator who is making a difference by growing and strengthening the band programs at 猫咪头条 University.

Fabian shared her reaction to the news, 鈥淲hen I first heard that I had been named a Yamaha 鈥40 under 40鈥 educator, I was honestly overwhelmed and humbled. To be recognized amongst such a talented group of educators is both an honor and a reminder of the incredible support I鈥檝e received from my students, students鈥 families, faculty, and community. It felt like a validation of the countless hours, late nights, early mornings, and long days that have gone into pushing my ensemble forward. The first thing I did was share the news with my dad, mom, and sister, who have been my biggest supporters throughout my musical journey.鈥

A screenshot of Dr. Sarah Fabian’s profile on Yamaha’s website

Yamaha noted that the 40 educators emphasize care and compassion with their students above all else as they elevate music and music-making in their schools and communities. They also exemplify the following characteristics: action (anticipate what needs to be done and proactively take the necessary steps that lead to a stronger music program), courage (propose and implement new or bold ideas), creativity (show innovation and imagination in achieving plans and objectives) and growth (establish, grow or improve music education in their schools and communities).

An article on Yamaha鈥檚 website describes why Fabian was selected for the award. When Fabian arrived at 猫咪头条 in 2022, she revamped the recruitment strategy. She visited high schools, attended music festivals and met with music educators to promote the music program at 猫咪头条. She also made a conscious effort to personally connect with prospective students. 鈥淲hether through phone calls, emails, lessons, meetings or Zoom, I aimed to show potential students what 猫咪头条 offered in terms of personalized education, performance opportunities and mentorship,鈥 Fabian said in the Yamaha article.

Fabian was also recognized for her strategic, multifaceted approach that focused on increasing visibility and creating a culture of excellence and excitement around the University鈥檚 music ensembles. The changes led to significant growth in the number of music majors, and members of the marching band, pep band and symphonic band. 鈥淚 emphasized that the marching band was not just a musical group, but a community where students could find belonging, develop leadership skills and build lasting relationships,鈥 Fabian told Yamaha.

She invited high schoolers to campus for band day events, and they were able to experience game day at GWU. The band also performed at more school events, exhibitions and sports games, so students saw the value of joining a group that had a wide range of opportunities.

鈥淭he pep band became a more inclusive group by broadening the type of instruments we included, allowing nontraditional band students to join,鈥 Fabian explained. 鈥淭he pep band was moved down to the court for more visibility, and they sure bring the energy!鈥

The Yamaha article also described Fabian鈥檚 goals to instill a sense of excellence, pride, fun and a sense of belonging into the GWU music program. She continued, 鈥淚 made sure my students understood the value of their hard work, and I鈥檓 proud to say that faculty, staff, students and community members often reach out to share their praise!鈥

In addition to attracting prospective students and engaging current students, Fabian also rebuilt alumni relations and reestablished connections within the local community. She used emails, phone calls, and social media to reach out to alumni and created personalized invitations to concerts and sporting events. The program鈥檚 social media pages were redesigned so people could easily stay connected. 鈥溍ㄟ渫诽 has been reestablished as a resource and a positive presence in the area,鈥 Fabian explained in the article. 鈥淲e鈥檝e hosted numerous concerts, events, clinics, masterclasses and more where we invite local residents and schools to attend. I continue to adjudicate in the area to meet new band directors and put 猫咪头条鈥檚 name back out there.鈥

The Yamaha article concluded that Fabian maintains high expectations while also creating a supportive, energetic environment. Fabian鈥檚 students reach their potential and enjoy the journey along the way. Her approach focuses on five areas: 1) a sense of community, 2) an engaging process, 3) tailored approach for each student, 4) a love of performance, and 5) be passionate and present.

Assistant Professor Receives Faculty Rising Star Award for Excellence in Scholarship, Teaching and Service

By Avery Copeland, Intern for University Communications

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳hrough her enthusiasm and engaging personality, Dr. Sarah Fabian, director of 猫咪头条 University Bands and assistant professor of music, has tremendously grown the music program. From recruitment efforts at the local high schools to connecting with directors, Fabian has increased interest and participation in the marching band.

She hosts game day and alumni events for the Department of Music and provides opportunities for potential students to experience life on campus. Additionally, she has improved campus life by elevating the fan experience at the football and basketball games with her inventive and creative ideas.

Fabian was recognized for her work with the 2024 Rising Star Award, presented to the faculty members for excellence in scholarship, teaching and service. Those who nominated her stated that Fabian fosters important bonds with her students and inspires them to achieve their goals both inside and outside the classroom. She also motivates her students to unlock their potential and helps them realize their true talents and abilities.

鈥淚t is truly an honor to be awarded the Rising Star Award,鈥 Fabian beamed. 鈥淚t means not only the students, but my colleagues see my efforts and dedication to the betterment of my courses, scholarly work, and service I have been putting into the University.鈥

She received a bachelor鈥檚 degree in music education with a concentration in percussion from Towson University and a master鈥檚 degree in music education from John Hopkins Peabody Conservatory, both in Maryland. She earned her Ph.D. in music education from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

Growing up in Baltimore, Md., in a family of musicians, Fabian was destined to find her way into the musical world. Her father was a professional jazz pianist and her mother an opera singer. 鈥淚 started playing piano before I could walk, and it continued from there,鈥 Fabian shared. 鈥淚 enjoyed playing and performing with my friends. When I started to excel and was winning competitions and events, I was hooked.鈥

She applied for the 猫咪头条 band director position in 2022 because of her fond memories of being on the University鈥檚 campus while training with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. A 2009 alumna of the Corps, Fabian has participated in numerous opportunities across the United States to teach drum corps, indoor groups and high schools.

鈥淚 am so passionate about music because of my experiences and educators who inspired me, and I want to share that same experience for my students,鈥 Fabian affirmed. 鈥淚 believe that I have a purpose to guide my students towards a lifelong connection and interest in music. At the heart of teaching is care, support, and encouragement towards the learner.鈥

As an educator, Fabian鈥檚 priorities are serving as a mentor, cheerleader, coach, counselor and facilitator for her students. She spends many hours a week working on recruiting new students while providing for her GWU students by constantly searching for innovative ways to engage and involve students in her courses. She works daily to present her students with new experiences and lifelong memories by hosting events, giving them gifts, providing travel opportunities, and more. 鈥淢y interactions with my students are the most rewarding parts of my job,鈥 she asserted. 鈥淭hey truly make being at 猫咪头条 a wonderful experience.鈥

Her teaching is focused on building a foundation of excellence, responsibility and respect. She advocates for fostering a warm and welcoming environment for students and fellow colleagues. 鈥淚 believe that the interactions you have with your students both in and outside of the classroom allow for better work commitment and progress,鈥 she emphasized. 鈥淚 find that if you are invested in a person and show trust and respect, they tend to work harder towards the overall goal. I think it is important to build that type of bond and respect throughout the program.鈥

Looking to the future, Fabian鈥檚 personal goals are to pursue her scholarly work along with opportunities for guest conducting and performing to keep her knowledge updated and relevant. Networking on behalf of the University is another priority. 鈥淚 strive to spread the 猫咪头条 name to the music world,鈥 she shared. 鈥淚 want to continue to inspire my students for excellence and raise the bar of our performance abilities.鈥

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he 猫咪头条 University Marching Bulldogs earned a coveted spot in the 78th annual Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade on Nov. 27. They are the only university band chosen to perform, and they have the honor of being the first marching band in the parade lineup.

Dr. Sarah Fabian

鈥淲e are thrilled to announce that the Marching Bulldogs have been selected to participate,鈥 asserted Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Sarah Fabian. 鈥淚t is a profound honor to represent 猫咪头条 and to embrace the spirit of giving, family, and community. This monumental occasion allows us to showcase our talents live on television before an audience of over 1 million viewers, with more than 100,000 spectators in attendance.鈥

Hundreds of bands apply for the annual Thanksgiving Eve Parade with the application process beginning in early summer. Since becoming director in 2022, Fabian has been impressed with the Marching Bulldogs鈥 growth in musicianship and skill. She felt confident in submitting the application, which included a performance video, before the group even started practicing in August.

Once the new and returning band members arrived on campus and went to work learning their new show, Fabian was impressed with their dedication. The group quickly became a cohesive unit and she felt sure they would receive an invite to the parade.

鈥淭he Marching Bulldogs truly embody a sense of family, and there鈥檚 no better way to spend Thanksgiving Eve than together in celebration,鈥 Fabian emphasized. 鈥淲e can鈥檛 wait to share this unforgettable experience with everyone.鈥

The parade will step-off at 5:45 p.m. and air live on WCCB on Nov. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. It will take place on Tryon Street, beginning at the intersection with 9th Street and ending at the intersection with Good Samaritan Way. Free viewing spots can be found from 9th to Brooklyn Village Avenue.

Kaselynn Mitchell, front, started ‘spinning’
14 years ago.

The performance viewing area is located from Brooklyn Village Avenue to Good Samaritan Way, and VIP seating is available in this area for $35. Learn more about the parade .

Along the parade route, the Marching Bulldogs will play 鈥淎ngels on Parade,鈥 a medley of Christmas classics. In the performance area, they will present 鈥淩unaway Baby鈥 by Bruno Mars from their 2024 Fall halftime show.

Kaselynn Mitchell, of Woodstock, Ga., an exercise science, pre-professional concentration major, likes the music Fabian has chosen. 鈥淚 enjoy the fast tempo and the upbeat energy the song creates for the band members and the audience,鈥 she noted.

Mitchell started 鈥渟pinning鈥 14 years ago as a sixth-grader in winter guard. Mitchell credits her participation in color guard with boosting her confidence and self-esteem. 鈥淚 have a great passion for performing and expressing my emotions through music,鈥 she affirmed. 鈥淚 am super excited to have the opportunity to be on TV and be able to share our talents for this special holiday. Being in the marching band has allowed me to gain a second family while letting me continue to keep up with my skills and learn more at every rehearsal.鈥

She values Fabian鈥檚 leadership. 鈥淒r. Fabian is truly the light of the GWU band program,鈥 Mitchell praised. 鈥淪he is constantly finding new opportunities for us to go to more games, parades, high schools, and other events to spread GWU spirit and our love for band. Dr. Fabian is the center of our marching band and has spent countless hours building and growing the marching band program. She is actively engaged with every section and without her strong leadership skills, our marching band would not be where it is today.鈥

Raniyah Adams plays clarinet with the
Marching Bulldogs.

Raniyah Adams, of Bessemer City, N.C., described her excitement when she heard the Marching Bulldogs were chosen to participate in the annual Charlotte tradition. 鈥淚t truly feels magical, a once-in-a-lifetime moment,鈥 observed the clarinet player. 鈥淚 love being in the marching band for the amazing opportunities we have and the long-term friendships and family I get to be with every day. Marching band will always have a place in my heart.鈥

A computer information systems major, Adams has played her instrument for nine years and started marching six years ago. She appreciates Fabian鈥檚 dedication to 猫咪头条鈥檚 program. 鈥淒r. Fabian is so welcoming and supportive of us,鈥 Adams stated. 鈥淪he has transformed our program鈥檚 positivity and engagement, as well as our creativity.鈥

With Twice the Members, 鈥楽ound of the Springs鈥 Brings Energy to Music of Grammy Winner

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擫ess than three weeks ago, new and returning members of the 猫咪头条 University鈥檚 Marching Bulldogs gathered for the first time. After a whirlwind band camp and rehearsals on 90-degree days, the 60 musicians are enthusiastic about bringing the 鈥淪ound of the Springs鈥 to Thursday鈥檚 home game against Wofford College at 7 p.m. in Spangler Stadium.

Director of Bands Dr. Sarah Fabian is impressed with the group鈥檚 dedication and hard work to memorize the halftime songs and drill, and music for the stands and pregame. 鈥淲e’ve learned a lot of material quickly, and they’re all handling that really well,鈥 she remarked. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited for Coach Cris Reisert and the new environment that he鈥檚 bringing. He got us all together during band camp, and I taught cheer, football, and band the words to the fight song. They鈥檙e going to come over when we win and do the fight song as one big group.鈥

Fabian is starting her third year with GWU. Through outreach and recruitment efforts, she鈥檚 doubled the size of the band since she arrived on campus. She writes the halftime show, taking inspiration from what鈥檚 trending. This year is a 鈥淭ake me to Mars鈥 rendition featuring the music of Bruno Mars. The Grammy award-winning artist has a new single with Lady Gaga that recently debuted at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales Chart.

鈥淲e鈥檙e starting off with 鈥24 Karat Magic,鈥 then we鈥檒l do 鈥楻unaway Baby,鈥 and 鈥楿ptown Funk,鈥欌 Fabian described. 鈥淲e will trickle in some different songs as we make our way throughout the season.鈥

鈥淩unaway Baby鈥 is one of Savannah Shaw鈥檚 favorite parts of the show. A freshman exercise science major, Shaw is a member of the dance section. 鈥淭he halftime show is upbeat and groovy,鈥 she shared. 鈥淵ou will see a lot of formation changes and hear wonderful music.鈥

Junior Boakye likes the opening number, 鈥24K,鈥 the best. 鈥淚t is one of my favorite Bruno Mars鈥 songs,鈥 noted the trumpet player and brass section leader. 鈥淚 enjoy the part I鈥檓 playing and how it connects with everything else the rest of the band is playing.鈥

Junior Boakye turns a somersault during practice.

During games, Boakye adds to the energy by turning somersaults. 鈥淚 participate in marching band, because I find enjoyment in being able to create the product we put out,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 also enjoy the family aspect of the marching band and how close of a bond we have with each other because of the time we put in. And, marching band also provides many opportunities that I would not be able to experience if I was not a part of it … like flying on a plane to Utah to play in March Madness (for women鈥檚 basketball).鈥

Senior Catlyn Whisenant said the high energy show is fun to perform. She plays the clarinet and is woodwind section leader. A criminal justice administration major with a minor in homeland security, Whisenant has been in marching bands since she was a high school freshman. 鈥淓ven though it seems like a lot of work, the show is worth the wait and there鈥檚 no other feeling like hitting the right sets and playing the music people love during a performance,鈥 she asserted. 鈥淢y favorite part of the halftime show is playing the music and marching with my friends. I like how the drill matches the music, such as how we make a 24 for the song 24k.鈥

Dallas Gordy, a freshman trumpet player, is an enthusiastic newcomer. He is early to rehearsal and stays late. He spends a lot of time in the practice rooms. 鈥淭he band is meant to bring the energy and support the team and even the crowd鈥攁nd perform a show that captures the audience鈥檚 attention to pump them up for the next half of the game,鈥 he offered. 鈥淚 love what I do. I love the music. I love singing through an instrument. Music helps so many people with so many things, so even if it’s in a small way, I know I’m helping someone in the sea of people who watch.鈥

Senior Drum Major Hailey Rodden has been with Fabian for three years. Rodden knows the high standards that Fabian expects and is able to run the band through the warm up on her own. 鈥淪he is absolutely phenomenal,鈥 Fabian praised. 鈥淪he鈥檚 one of those students that always thinks ahead.鈥

A music education major, Rodden aspires to be a band director and feels that her experience in marching band has prepared her for the future. She appreciates Fabian鈥檚 leadership and mentorship. 鈥淚 have witnessed an establishment of culture under Dr. Fabian,鈥 Rodden observed. 鈥淚 feel that I am with a group of students who all have the same goals and all bring energy to everything we do.鈥

Elite Performers’ Impact Begins on Campus and Travels to 14 States

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擲ince moving to Boiling Springs in 2022, there鈥檚 one question 猫咪头条 University Director of Bands Dr. Sarah Fabian expects to be asked in May. Whether she鈥檚 walking around her neighborhood or in town, people want to know, 鈥淲hen鈥檚 that band getting here?鈥

percussionists at 猫咪头条.

As a former member of the group, Fabian knows firsthand the band they are referring to is Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps, a competitive drum corps whose members are age 21 and under. Based out of Fort Mill, S.C., the corps tours the United States every summer performing in Drum Corps International (DCI) competitions. Since 2007, Crown has consistently placed in the world class top six and in 2013 even won the gold medal 鈥 and every summer they start with a month of rehearsals at 猫咪头条 University.

This year, Crown will be on campus May 16-June 16. 鈥淚t鈥檚 the talk of the town and something exciting that happens here over the summer,鈥 Fabian affirmed. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a big presence on campus and a benefit to watch their high-level skills and abilities.鈥

In the 17 years that Carolina Crown has held its pre-tour rehearsals at 猫咪头条, relationships have been built between the musicians and the community. 猫咪头条 President Dr. William M. Downs praised the partnership, 鈥淭he energy, the precision, the big bold sound 鈥 we love that GWU nurtures something so good each and every summer. And as we continue to build enthusiasm around our own resurgent marching band, it helps to have Crown on our field and on full display. Music with a mission has its home at a University on a mission. Welcome back, Carolina Crown!鈥

Fabian was introduced to 猫咪头条 in 2009 when she toured with Carolina Crown. Because of her memorable experience on campus, she decided to take the position here. Through Crown, Fabian developed ties to drum corps and has worked as a clinician with many Drum Corps and Winter Guard International groups. Two of the instructors for the Marching Bulldogs are also instructors for Carolina Crown. Fabian said the GWU students will volunteer to help Crown in various ways while they are on campus, and they enjoy watching, listening and learning from the rehearsals.

Carolina Crown Director Joe Roach also noted the significance of the organization鈥檚 ties to 猫咪头条. 鈥淓ach year Crown begins its summer experience bringing 165 performers from all around the country to 猫咪头条 for four weeks of spring training in preparation for our national tour,鈥 he shared. 鈥溍ㄟ渫诽 is our home away from home. The University and surrounding community are so supportive and welcoming year after year.鈥

Roach continued, 鈥淲e are lucky to have a former member of Carolina Crown on faculty at 猫咪头条. Dr. Sarah Fabian is a great ambassador for the University and continues to be a supportive alumna of the drum corps. Working with her and getting her students involved while we are on campus has been a lot of fun the past couple of years.鈥

While Crown鈥檚 impact is felt on campus and in town through their music and the fans who come to see them rehearse, the drum corps takes a little part of GWU with them on a tour that stops in 14 states.

鈥溍ㄟ渫诽 means a lot to the alumni, members and staff of Carolina Crown,鈥 Fabian explained. 鈥淢any families, friends, fans, and alumni make their way to 猫咪头条 to support Crown during their Preview show in June. There is even a tradition that takes place during Spring training for anybody who is aging out of the corps to buy GWU T-shirts and gear before they leave on their last tour.鈥

Another aspect of the Crown organization is their work in communities where they perform. Through Crown Cares, members participate in community outreach programs, music education initiatives, collect shoes and socks for Samaritan鈥檚 Feet, and distribute books to children in need.

Crown has commissioned world-renowned composer John Mackey to compose an original piece for their show this season. Performers will have the opportunity to engage with Mackey when he visits this summer. Mackey鈥檚 creation will later be arranged as concert band literature to be released in the fall, creating a legacy work that will live on long past finals night.

Before they leave on tour, Crown will present CrownLive in Spangler Stadium on June 15. The box office opens at 6 p.m. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and warmups begin. The live performance starts at 8 p.m. Performances will include features by individual sections of the Corps as well as the full 2024 production. General admission seating is $20 and tickets are available .

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he 猫咪头条 Marching Bulldogs begins its second season under the direction of Dr. Sarah Fabian, director of Athletic Bands, with new members and a new addition鈥攁 seven-member dance team. The 50 band members also include nine color guard and 34 musicians. They started practicing in early August and are eager to perform for football fans. 聽

Connor Settlemyre, a junior music education major, doesn鈥檛 mind the 12-hour rehearsal days. 鈥淏and camp is where we settle the fundamentals and set the foundation of the whole season,鈥 he observed. 鈥淭he new people coming in from high school learn how we do things, because everybody does it a little different.鈥 聽

Hailey Rodden, also a junior music education major, is returning as drum major. She shared that her favorite part of band camp is observing the interactions between members, and seeing the relationships grow with the freshmen. 聽

The show features hits from Demi Lovato, Lizzo and Taylor Swift. 鈥淲e are excited to see what the season has in store,鈥 Fabian asserted. 鈥淭he students have made great progress on the show. The new members have been doing a great job.鈥 聽

Settlemyre, a percussionist, started playing in the sixth grade and was a member of his high school marching band. 鈥淭his upcoming season will be my fourth year playing quads but my fifth year on a drumline,鈥 he stated. 鈥淚 absolutely love what the marching band does. It takes everyone giving 100% in order for us to put the best show in front of the audience.鈥 聽

Fabian noted that new songs will be added to their program throughout the season. 鈥淢arching Bulldogs continue to grow and elevate their performances,鈥 she praised. 鈥淭hey strive to bring the light, energy and spirit to all events they attend. We will be traveling to cheer on the football team at the App State (Appalachian State University) game on Sept. 2.鈥 聽 聽
