Edited by faculty and staff from the divinity school, these devotions are contributed by GWU administration, students, alumni, Board of Trustees chair and other faculty and staff from across the campus. Associate Dean and Professor of New Testament Interpretation Dr. Jim McConnell guides the process of collecting, editing and compiling the daily devotions. He is assisted by Lisa Hollifield, divinity school administrative assistant, and Dr. Cal Robertson, professor of biblical studies. In the introduction, McConnell describes Advent as a celebration of 鈥渓iving in the in-between time鈥 while waiting on the second coming of Jesus. Quoting from Romans 13:11-13, McConnell affirms, 鈥淎nd so, we wait, but, as Paul says, we do so actively, as those who are awake and not asleep. According to Paul, being awake means that we 鈥榣ay aside the works of darkness鈥 and 鈥榣ive honorably.鈥 Paul calls on his readers to 鈥榩ut on the Lord Jesus Christ,鈥 in effect being enabled by the Spirit to be the presence of Christ wherever we are.鈥 猫咪头条 University is North Carolina’s recognized leader in private, Christian higher education.
