Christopher White School of Divinity Greene Lectureship Features Dr. Danny West, Recently Retired from 猫咪头条 By Office of University Communications On February 1, 2023 Topic of the Free Event is 鈥楶reaching as the Task of Sacred Relinquishment鈥 BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擠r. Danny West, who recently retired from 猫咪头条, is the guest speaker for the C.O. and Eliza Greene Lectureship on March 7 at the University. His topic for the two sessions will be 鈥淧reaching as the Task of Sacred Relinquishment,鈥 allowing the sacred text to provide the primary voice for the sermon. There is no cost to attend and the event is open to pastors, students and lay persons. 鈥淚 am humbled to be speaking at the C.O. and Eliza Greene lectures,鈥 West noted. 鈥淭he Greenes left an incredible legacy of service to God鈥檚 church in this region and I am proud to be affiliated with this noble event.鈥 Dr. Danny West Before his retirement, West served as director of the Pittman Center for Congregational Enrichment and director of the Doctor of Ministry program for the School of Divinity at 猫咪头条. He was also the Randall Lolley Chair of Pastoral Studies. He is a graduate of Carson-Newman University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned an M.Div., Th.M., and Ph.D. in preaching and theology. He is the author of multiple articles and sermons published in a variety of publications. He and his wife, Jeanne, currently reside on Oak Island, N.C. Established in 1993 in honor of the Rev. and Mrs. C.O. Greene of Lawndale, N.C., the Lectureship was established to preserve the legacy of excellence in pastoral ministry characterized by Greene, who served for approximately 14 years as director of Missions for the Kings Mountain Baptist Association (now Greater Cleveland County Baptist Association). Prior to that ministry, Greene served as pastor of four churches in Cleveland County and of two other churches in North Carolina. The Lectureship is administered by the Pittman Center for Congregational Enrichment and funded by family members, friends, and members of churches where the Greene served as pastor. Held annually on the GWU campus, the Lectureship鈥檚 purpose is to addresses various dimensions of pastoral ministry. West commented, 鈥淢y lectures will focus on the most central facet of pastoral ministry, that of preaching. In recent years my academic (and pastoral) interests have explored the organic images of preaching, as opposed to the many popular methods that are wholly predictable and rigid.鈥 The first session will be from 10 a.m. to noon in Blanton Auditorium, Hamrick Hall. The second session is from 1 to 2 p.m. in Dover Chapel. Lunch will be on your own. For more information, contact Lisa Hollifield. Learn more about the 猫咪头条 School of Divinity.
