Biography

Robert W. Canoy joined the School of Divinity faculty in 2000. He teaches Christian Theology I, Christian Theology II, Greek I , Greek II, the Revelation of John, and The Ministry of Worship, a Doctor of Ministry seminar. Dr. Canoy regularly leads study tours to Israel, Egypt, Greece, and Turkey. His primary area of research is New Testament theology, and Dr. Canoy has written articles and books (Atonement in the Apocalypse: An Expose of the Defeat of Evil) on eschatology, Eucharistic theology, and teaching the New Testament in the local church.

Prior to joining the faculty of the School of Divinity, Dr. Canoy served as pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shelby, North Carolina. His academic career includes teaching at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, MO. He has a background steeped in the local church where he has served as pastor, interim pastor, and guest teacher in churches across North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Iowa, and Missouri. Dr. Canoy hails from Mississippi. He is married to Cynthia and they are the parents of two adult sons. Dr. Canoy鈥檚 hobbies include bicycling, basketball, baseball, hunting, woodworking, and traveling.

Biography

Tereso C. Casi帽o joined the School of Divinity faculty in 2010. He teaches Missions and Evangelization, Mission Principles in Praxis, Gospel Across Cultures, Introduction to Islam, and Urban Missiology. He is the author of numerous journal articles and editor of Asia-Pacific Journal of Intercultural Studies. Dr. Casi帽o鈥檚 areas of research interest include the global diaspora, the history of mission movements in Asia, and world religions. He has submitted three articles for publication, 鈥淕lobal Diaspora: Basic Frameworks for Theological Construction,鈥 鈥淚ndigenous Modes of Communication in Asian Cultures,鈥 and 鈥淭he Rise of the Filipino Missionary Movement: A Preliminary Historical Assessment.鈥 Dr. Casi帽o is involved in three additional writing projects, including a work titled, God, the Sacred, and Identity. Prior to joining the faculty of the School of Divinity, he served as Professor of Systematic Theology and Intercultural Studies/Missions at Torch Trinity Graduate School of Theology in Seoul, South Korea. He is the former Director of the Master of Divinity/Master of Theological Studies (English Track) program at Torch Trinity Graduate School of Theology as well.

Dr. Casi帽o is an internationally renowned scholar and has delivered lectures across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. His administrative background has afforded him opportunities to serve as Dean of numerous seminaries, including the Asia Baptist Graduate Theological Seminary and Luzon Nazarene Bible College. A gifted minister in the local church, Dr. Casi帽o has served as pastor, interim pastor, and youth minister at churches in South Korea and Philippines. He is also the Regional Chair of the Lausanne Movement.

Dr. Casi帽o is a native of Philippines, but has resided in Seoul, South Korea for the past 8 years. He is married to Dr. Cecilia J. Casi帽o, who teaches in the area of pastoral care at the Torch Trinity Graduate School of Theology in Seoul, South Korea. They have two adult children.

Biography

Douglas M. Dickens joined the School of Divinity faculty in 2000. He teaches a variety of pastoral care and counseling courses, including Conflict Ministry in Church and Community, Pastoral Theology, Interpersonal Relationships, Pastoral Care to Persons in Crisis, and Family Systems Theory. As the W. Randall Lolley Chair of Pastoral Studies, Dr. Dickens developed the curriculum for the Pastoral Care and Counseling and Member Care for Missionaries concentration in the Doctor of Ministry degree program.

Prior to joining the faculty of the School of Divinity, Dr. Dickens served as Associate Professor of Pastoral Ministry at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. During his tenure at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, he was invited to teach courses in pastoral care and counseling in Russia. In 1997 Samara State Medical University named Dr. Dickens 鈥淒istinguished Professor of Medical Psychology.鈥 He is a supervisor for the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc., and he is a 1992 recipient of the Len Cedarleaf Award. Dr. Dickens serves on the Accreditation Committee of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education. A Fellow with the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, he maintains a limited pastoral counseling practice. Additionally, Dr. Dickens is a board-certified chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains and a member of the Scientific and Medical Network, an international organization committed to deepening understanding in the disciplines of science, medicine, and education.

Dr. Dickens is the author of two monographs, An Introduction to Christian Ministry and Pastoral Leadership. He is the editor of Clinical Supervision of the Medical Psychologist in Russia, and he has published several journal articles relating to pastoral care and pastoral psychology. Dr. Dickens has been trained by the Interim Ministry Network and the Center for Congregational Health to serve as an intentional interim pastor.

Dr. Dickens was born in Arkansas. He is married to Sherri Lynn Dickens, and they are the parents of six children and two grandchildren.

Biography

Steven R. Harmon began teaching in the School of Divinity in 2010. He regularly teaches Christian History and Theology I and II, Christian Ethics, Theological Integration Capstone Seminar, and elective courses in Christian history and theology. Dr. Harmon is the author of听(Rowman & Littlefield),听(Paternoster),听(Cascade Books),听(Baylor University Press), and听听(New City Press); he is co-editor and co-author with Amy L. Chilton of听(Mercer University Press) and with Teun van der Leer, Henk Bakker, and Elizabeth Newman of听(Cascade Books). He has also published numerous journal articles, chapters in multi-author books, and general readership publications. Dr. Harmon serves on the editorial boards of听Pacific Journal of Baptist Research, the听Journal of Baptist Theology in Context,听and the Centre for Baptist Studies in Oxford Publications series, and previously served as听Book Review Editor for听Perspectives in Religious Studies听and Associate Editor of听Review and Expositor.

Prior to teaching in the School of Divinity, Dr. Harmon was Associate Professor of Christian Theology at Campbell University Divinity School in Buies Creek, North Carolina and Associate Professor of Divinity at Samford University鈥檚 Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama. He has served as Visiting Professor at Duke University Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Harmon has served as pastor of three churches in Texas, interim pastor of churches in North Carolina, and guest preacher and teacher in numerous congregations in Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Maryland, and Virginia. He is a member of St. John’s Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is an active member of the Commission on Doctrine and Christian Unity of the Baptist World Alliance, which he has represented in ecumenical dialogues with the Anglican Communion, the Catholic Church, and the Eastern Orthodox churches, and as a plenary member of the World Council of Churches Commission on Faith and Order. 

Dr. Harmon hails from Texas. He is married to Kheresa Wedding Harmon, who serves as Minister for Children and Their Families at St. John’s Baptist Church in Charlotte, and they are the parents of a high school-age son, Timothy. Dr. Harmon鈥檚 hobbies include running, reading, listening to a wide variety of music 鈥渇rom Bach to Bono,鈥 playing the electric guitar (especially U2 covers) and occasionally the French horn and alto recorder, and traveling.

Biography

James R. McConnell, Jr., a native of Indianapolis, IN, joined the 猫咪头条 School of Divinity faculty in 2009. Dr. McConnell serves as the Associate Dean of the School of Divinity and Associate Professor of New Testament Interpretation, teaching classes in all areas of New Testament as well as biblical Greek. The author of The topos of Divine Testimony in Luke-Acts (Pickwick, 2014), as well as other articles and essays, Dr. McConnell focuses especially on Luke-Acts and Paul. He also serves as the associate editor of the journal Review & Expositor.

Dr. McConnell began his vocational life as an electrical engineer after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University. After fourteen years in industry, four of which were spent designing dental equipment for Siemens AG in Bensheim, Germany, he transitioned into teaching and full-time church ministry, earning a Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, followed by a PhD in New Testament from Baylor University. Dr. McConnell and his wife Susan have two married sons and a daughter, as well as twin grandsons. In his free time Dr. McConnell enjoys gardening, hiking and backpacking, and photography.

Biography

Hebert Palomino, prior to coming to GWU, served as a Baptist Missionary to Peru and Paraguay for 25 years. He taught at the Baptist seminaries there. He also served as pastor in churches in Colombia and in the US. He teaches a variety of Pastoral Care and Counseling courses, among them being Introduction to Pastoral Care & Counseling, Pastoral Care of Families, Crisis Intervention, Family Systems Theory, Mental Health and Spirituality, The Christian Ministry, Pastoral Care through the Life Cycle.

He has been a Guest Professor to Seminaries in Colombia, Chile, and recently involved in a Counseling Program in Cuba. He coordinated the heart transplant team at the Baptist Hospital in Asuncion, Paraguay, served as a Family Counselor and Chaplain there facilitating a basic unit of Clinical Pastoral Education. Dr. Palomino is a Founder Member of the Paraguayan Palliative Medicine. For the last 15 years he has served as Member Care for the Missionaries in the Americas with the International Mission Board, train and assist other Hispanic missionaries who serve in the 10/40 window. He has authored two books in Spanish, Introduction to Christian Counseling and Pastoral Care for the New Millennium, and published diverse media materials in Spanish on the family as well

Dr. Palomino is originally from Colombia, S.A.. He is married to Karen, and they are the parents of four children and five grandchildren.
